"Merlin why on earth are you taking me into the middle of a random lake?" Arthur had placed himself at the front of the boat as Merlin pushed them along with the paddle. The only light to guide their way was the glow of the moon and scattered stars, their reflection dancing on the glistening surface of the water.
"Just wait and see." Merlin replied with a smile as he drove the paddle in to the water and glided through the perfectly still surface.
The rowing boat was quite small but stuffed with blankets an a couple of pillows. There was also a black box under Merlin’s seat and Arthur hadn’t been allowed to look in it.
"Well at least let me paddle." Arthur suggested but Merlin insisted and told Arthur to just keep looking forward.
It had been almost a year since Arthur had returned, the most blissful of all the thousands of desperate years Merlin had spent alone in his immortal life. It had also taken most of that year for Arthur to adapt to modern life, but every now and then, Merlin liked to do things that took them back. He knew Arthur missed Camelot dearly, and he knew Arthur was sometimes overwhelmed by technology and all the new sounds and smells and things to see.
So that was why he had found the rowing boat, why he had only brought a picnic basket full of fresh foods and why he was going to use his magic (which was something he rarely did any more) to give Arthur something special, something so singularly precious, all the money in the world could not buy it.
He stopped rowing when they reached roughly the centre of the lake. Carefully Merlin clipped the oar to the side of the boat and then knelt down in front of his seat to lift the slate of wood out, giving them room to sit back.
Cusions lacing the rear of the boat, Merlin sat back against them and Arthur shuffled off his own bench to lie back against Merlin, who wrapped his arms around Arthur and kissed the top of his head.
"So," Arthur murmured, taking one of Merlin’s hands and kissing it three times. "You didn’t bring me all the way out here to cuddle." He said and Merlin laughed lightly.
"No, the cuddling is standard. I’ve been working on something." And with that he lifted his free hand up and faced his palm out, then looking out on to the simmering water he induced the magic through his entire body, motioning circles with his palm ever so slightly.
Arthur watched the water with a confused expression at first, until he saw it, hundreds of droplets rising out of the lake, rising up then lingering. It started off as hundreds but grew in to thousands of shimmering beads being suspended in the air forming an image. Squinting, Arthur stared in awe at first at the beautiful, twinkling veil of droplets until he realized what image was being formed.
"Camelot…" He said quietly, eyes now wide and desperate. Merlin’s hand was still outstretched as a few more droplets rose up to finish the image but it was there, and it was breathtaking. Arthur could barely move as he gazed as the shimmering image, the turrets and the parapet in all of their glory, the flags fluttering in the wind, the entire perfection that was his kingdom.
"Merlin…" He whispered, squeezing Merlin’s hand gently but not turning away from the image until it evaporated in to the night sky minutes later and disappeared. Only then did he turn around and smile, a tear in his eye.

everybody has that one fictional character that they irrationally adore above all others and will defend to the death and you just get super happy and excited whenever you see their face on your dash
Hmm… I have a few:
You’re not gonna bust out the misty good-bye speech, okay? I mean, if this is my last day on earth, I do not want it to be socially awkward. You know what I do want…
What I have been spending all my free timing doing the past week…I think I’m now obsessed with Santa hats.
Feel free to save and use as icons, etc. Just give me credit if somebody asks where you got em.
Also, considering I have 20+ photos queued up to be Santa-Hatted per other people, it’s safe to say I’m taking requests, so feel free to send anything my way you want to see.

“So what’s it all add up to? Well, it’s hard to say. But me, I’d say it was a test. For Sam and Dean. And I think they did alright. Up against good, evil, angels, devils, destiny, and God himself - They made their own choice. They chose family. And well, isn’t that kinda the whole point?”
